How to replace a lost Certificate of Incorporation

Occasionally you will have the need to supply your original Certificate of Incorporation but what can you do if you can’t find it?

In many cases a replacement can be accessed free of charge but there are various other ways around it and a recent client enquiry prompted us to add this post.

Download a copy from Companies House by visiting – Take me to company details

Then complete the following steps:

  • Enter the company number of company name in the box marked search the register
  • Find your company in the list provided
  • Go to the section marked ‘Filing history’
  • Go down to the very bottom of the list and select view the PDF beside ‘Incorporation’
  • Here you will get the copy which you can save and keep safe

What if you have changed your company name at any time? Go to the date of change and complete the same steps which will give you the name changes.

When will you need this? You can be asked to provide your Certificate of Incorporation at various times, for example, you may be asked for it when opening a new business bank account. It could be requested when applying for funding, for trade accounts, when renting premises or when selling your business.
